For the first time ever, those who value learning from small-scale farmers outside the U.S. can participate in a structured program facilitated through MESA's global network.
MESA's Certificate of International Training in Agroecology (CITA) integrates practical and academic learning for a career in sustainable food systems. The CITA program offers project-oriented education and community work experience in agriculture to equip beginning farmers and agrarians with the insight and experience needed to repair our global food system. MESA's enthusiastic team of alumni and faculty are eager to provide CITA Stewards with insightful academic curriculum, language study and immersion, cooperative learning, mentorship and hands-on work experience.

Why get a Certificate of International Training in Agroecology?
Sustainable agriculture is gaining momentum as a focal point for government policies in health, environment and economic development worldwide. Agroecology integrates local agricultural production with a thriving ecosystem and healthy farming communities. The need for professionals knowledgeable in agroecology with international and foreign language experience is expanding rapidly.
"Climate change, environmental degradation, rising
energy costs, hunger, and poverty are major international
challenges that agriculturalists will face in the
near future. The CITA model addresses the urgent
need for a critical mass with comprehensive training
in agroecology and the foundations of sustainable
food systems to tackle the roots of these problems
on a local and global level."
