We have compiled a list of online resources that include funding opportunities for study abroad participants, online language learning resources and links to our global partners.

Scholarships and Funding Opportunities

  • UC Berkeley Undergraduate Merit Scholarships with the Institute of International Studies
  • Center of African Studies at UC Berkeley fellowships and grants

National funding for professionals, students and others:

  • LIVfund- live, intern and volunteer in Latin America
  • Charles Lindbergh Fund Grants for research or educational project that will contribute to a balance between technology and environmental preservation

Individual Fundraising Ideas:

MESA encourages you to reach out to your community and network with folks who may be able to help finance your participation in the CITA program.

  • Start by preparing a checklist, a budget and identifying a network of potential community resources.
    • Don't forget to look at local businesses, charitable organizations, places of worship, clubs, school groups, professors, co-workers and of course family and friends.
  • Write a (one-page!) letter explaining the CITA program, your personal goals and a short background of who you'll be working with. Give your audience an idea of what their donation could be used for (e.g. travel costs, community workshops, home stay room and board, in-country coordinators).
  • Give a presentation- this could be in a classroom or group meeting. Make sure you have handouts or cards with your information.
  • Host an event! Give everyone an opportunity to mingle, meet you and learn a bit more about your plans. You could consider inviting a band, cooking a dinner, holding a bake sale, arts and crafts show, or a silent auction.
  • Advertise! With all the new social networking sites, it's easy to put the word out to your friends and family. Post your event, create a blog- the opportunities are endless. Facebook even has a fundraising application.
